IAITAM: Asset Identification

The foundation of the Asset Identification Training rests upon the insights and methodologies found in IBPL Asset Identification Volume 11. This volume focuses on practices that are dedicated to distinguishing and confirming the individual presence of IT assets within an organization.

Asset identification serves as a crucial initial phase within an ITAM program, exerting its influence across various Key Process Areas (KPAs) during an asset’s lifecycle. Distinct physical identification markers are assigned and adhered to the exteriors of IT assets, linking each label to a specific asset. This mode of identification is essential for tasks related to inventory management, location tracking, security, and compliance.

Present techniques of identification encompass a range of methods, including but not limited to barcodes and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). In RFID, asset tags contain information directly associated with the respective asset. This labeling system is typically unique to the organization implementing it.
